2. How is Carylls different?

• All rooms at Carylls have a kitchenette with fridge, microwave, kettle, toaster, crockery and cutlery; towels and bedding are provided. To comply with fire regulations, electric cookers and hot plates are not provided in the rooms. However, we do have 2 separate communal kitchens with ovens and hobs, as well as self- service laundry facilities with washing machine, dryer, ironing boards and irons.

3. Who stays at Carylls?

• Guests looking for rooms to let in Horsham or Rooms to let Crawley stay at Carylls, as the village of Faygate is equidistant between the two towns. We offer Nightly, Weekly and Longer stay. We offer accommodation for leisure and business travellers, as well as guests looking for longer term living accommodation. We have guests who are:
  • working away from home beyond commuting distance

  • working in the area on business or short term contracts

  • not wanting to be tied into a 6 month contract

  • Our rooms offer a great alternative to traditional hotels, and cost up to 40% less than hotel rooms of equivalent standard.

4. What’s included?

• Our room rates include room only, utilities, broadband internet access, and housekeeping service. Each room comes with a complete furnishing package, including dishes, utensils and linens. For all guests to include long stay ones, this includes council tax, water rates, car parking and broadband.

5. Are meals included?

• As a self-catering hotel, all rooms have fridges; this enables you to purchase whatever ingredients you need and prepare your meals. We do not have an onsite restaurant, although there are 5 pubs serving food, within a 1 and a half mile radius. Apart from the kitchenette in your room, there are 2 fitted communal kitchens with electric cookers for your use. This gives you the freedom of choice to eat what and when you like.

6. What guarantees do you give?

• If upon arrival, you are not completely satisfied with your room, we will be happy to move you to another room of the same category if there is one available, or we will refund your payment in full for you to find an alternative hotel. (Non use only.)

2. What are the rooms like?

1. What types of rooms are there?

• We offer Single, Executive Single, Double, Executive Double and Twin rooms.

  Our studio rooms provide a comfortable, private and cosy place to stay, and can be booked from nightly to longer stay basis, giving you more flexibility, space and value for money to enjoy your stay..

  Being a converted 15th Century Country House full of character, no two rooms are identical, not like a newly-built motel. It is therefore impossible to give exact sizes of rooms to include or exclude bay windows, alcoves and so on.

  Rooms at Carylls provide more space than hotel rooms of an equivalent standard, so whether your choice is one of our guest rooms or one of our holiday flatlets, it offers an equipped kitchenette and a living/working area.

  Our guests have much more space to live, work and relax. They believe that having a room with its own facilities is a must, and prefer the flexibility of a room at Carylls to living with strangers in a house share or living with a landlady. Living out of a suitcase in a guest house, bed and breakfast or hotel is always an option but is not always ideal or economical.

2. Are the rooms en-suite?

• All rooms have en-suite showers. Hot water is available 24 hours. We do not have any rooms with baths.

3. Do the rooms have broadband?

• All rooms have hard wired broadband internet for your convenience. This facility is free of charge. However, as Faygate is in the countryside, fibre optic cabling with fast speeds is not available. There is a Wi-Fi hot spot in the lounge for your use. There is no password.

4. Do the rooms have TV?

• All rooms have flat screen televisions with DVD facilities and freeview channels.

5. Are the rooms furnished?

• All rooms are furnished with a bed or beds, wardrobe, chest of drawers and chair or sofa. Each room also has a flat screen television with DVD and freeview channels. The in room kitchenette is provided with fridge with freezer box compartment, as well as microwave, kettle, toaster, crockery and cutlery. Bedding, linens and towels are provided for our nightly and weekly stay guests, and are serviced every weekday.

6. Are there any single rooms?

• We provide single, executive single, double, and executive double rooms, as well as one flat with one double bedroom, and one flat with one double bedroom and one twin bedroom. Please note that we only have 2 flats available. Separate tariffs apply.

7. How big are the rooms?

• Unlike newly built hotels which have identical rooms, Carylls is a converted 15th century country house with no two rooms identical to each other. It is therefore difficult to give the exact size of each room.

8. Can I get an extra bed?

• We are unable to put extra beds in the rooms.

9. Do you provide cots or highchairs?

• We do not charge for infants sharing their parent’s room, but we don’t provide any cots, highchairs or other baby equipment. Parents are welcome to bring travel cots, bedding etc for their child’s use.

10. What is an executive room?

• The executive single rooms are larger and have 4 foot beds, and some with larger shower rooms. The executive doubles are more spacious, and have king or queen size beds. All our executive double rooms have lovely views of the front lawn, overlooking beautiful rolling countryside. Some of the executive double rooms have sitting areas.

11. How much is heating?

• Heating is free of charge and serviced by a central boiler which is timed. During the week when guest are out working, the heating comes on mornings and evenings. This is constantly adjusted by the maintenance team depending on the temperature. During the weekends, the heating is put on all day.

12. Is there a car park?

• Each guest has an allocated parking space and this is provided free of charge in our secure on–site car park. Please park in your allocated space only and one car per room only please. Additional cars are charged at the rate of £5.00 per day; vans £7.00 per day.

13. Is there a mini-bar?

• All rooms have a fridge, so there is no need for an expensive mini–bar! Simply stock the fridge with your own choice of beers, wine and food — no unexpected mini–bar bills at the end of your stay!

  A hospitality tray is provided free of charge to welcome you to Carylls — this includes tea, coffee, sugar and milk; this is topped up on a daily basis except for weekends and bank holidays.

14. Is there a cooker?

• Due to fire regulations, only Microwaves are allowed in Rooms.

  All rooms at Carylls have a kitchenette with fridge, microwave, kettle, toaster, crockery and cutlery; towels and bedding are provided. To comply with fire regulations, electric cookers and hot plates are not provided in the rooms. 15. What amenities are there?

• The house boasts a magnificent lounge area, complete with huge open fireplaces, leather sofas and wonderful carved oak panelling. There is also a cosy snug with a comfy leather suite at the front of the house. There is an onsite coin-operated launderette with commercial washer, dryer, irons and ironing boards. Two Kitchens with the benefit of electric cookers with ovens and hobs are provided. There are over 5 acres of landscaped gardens for you to enjoy. We are surrounded by farmland with extensive views as far as the Surrey hills.

3. How long can I stay for?

• Just like every hotel, you can book your room from 1 night to multiple nights.

2. Can I stay for several weeks?

  Your room rate is discounted when you book for a week or more. Please see our price list. Extra nights are booked at the normal nightly rate.

  We have a number of guests who have travelled to the area to work for companies on a long, medium or short term contract, and are staying with us for 3 months or more. Due to the nature of their contract, renting a flat is not an option as it means committing to a 6 to 12 months contract.

  As many of our guests are here for a number of weeks or longer, they find Carylls a spacious, comfortable, private and cosy place to stay. The size of the Country House makes it easy to choose whether to socialise with other guests or not.

4. Do you have holiday flats?

• Holiday flats have en-suite showers, kitchenette, free parking, and complimentary broadband. They are available for weekly stay and positioned within the Country House in Faygate, which is near the Crawley, Horsham and Gatwick area – better priced than hotels and guest houses. Each flat has its own parking space.

  The Gun House: The Gun House overlooks the gardens. It has a separate kitchenette equipped with Fridge, Microwave, Kettle, Toaster, Crockery and Cutlery. There is also a sitting room with bucket chairs, television with DVD and free view, broadband and fold away desk. The Gun House has one Double bedroom.

  The Annex: This lovely holiday apartment has 2 bedrooms; 1 double and 1 twin. It has an open plan living area, including a kitchenette equipped with Fridge, Microwave, Kettle, Toaster, Crockery and Cutlery; dining area with table and 4 chairs, and sitting area with settee, television with DVD and free view, broadband and fold away desk.

  Your flat will be ready for you from 2pm on your arrival day. If you will be arriving after 5pm, please arrange check–in with us beforehand. If you wish to check in before 2pm, we may be able to arrange this, but there will be a charge equivalent to one night’s stay. Please let us know when booking. Check–out is strictly by 10am on your departure date. A later check-out time may be possible, but we cannot guarantee this and will be subject to a charge equivalent to one night’s stay. Please advise us when booking.

  IMPORTANT – Our Cancellation Policy for Holiday Flat Bookings

  If for any reason you need to cancel your booking more than 7 days before your arrival date, a charge equivalent to one week’s accommodation will be made, and charged to your credit card. Bookings cancelled within 7 days of the arrival date will be charged in full, with no refund.

2. How big are the holiday flats?

• We have a one bedroom flat with double bedroom, sitting room, kitchen, toilet and shower.

  We have a second flat with one double bedroom, one twin room, open plan kitchen, dining and sitting room, and toilet and shower.

3. Can I cancel my booking?

• If for any reason you need to cancel your booking more than 7 days before your arrival date, a charge equivalent to one week’s accommodation will be made, and charged to your credit card. Bookings cancelled within 7 days of the arrival date will be charged in full, with no refund.

5. What services do you offer?

2. Is there maid service?

• All rooms booked on a nightly or weekly basis are serviced daily, apart from weekends and bank holidays.

3. Can I redirect my post to Carylls?

• Our postal address Carylls Country House, Faygate Lane, Faygate, Near Horsham, RH12 4SN. Please feel free to arrange for your mail to be diverted to us. Letters and parcels are delivered direct to the office and then distributed. Once you vacate, all mail will be returned to sender. We do not have a mail collection service.

4. Do you provide toiletries?

• Each shower room has a dispenser provided with shower/body wash, which is topped up as necessary. If you have forgotten to pack your soap or toothbrush, just contact the office and we will send you an emergency toiletry bag with our compliments.

5. Is there a garden?

• Guests are welcome to use our beautiful 5 acre landscape gardens. They have been created to provide a haven for wildlife, with mature oak trees, rolling lawns and beds of wildflowers. In the gardens, there are cedar picnic tables with umbrellas, shaded benches to relax on with a book or magazine, and a small play area for children

6. Do you charge for cleaning?

• Our nightly and weekly stay guests do not pay for this service. If you are a longer stay guest taking advantage of our considerably reduced pricing you can elect to use this service and an extra charge will be made. All you need to do is book a room clean and service in advance. This service is only available on weekdays.

7. What staff are on duty?

• Carylls has on–site management, with the manager available during office hours. There are also contract staff who look after housekeeping and maintenance.

6. About my booking...

1. How to make your booking:

• To reserve your room, please call us with your payment card details - 01293 851 247

  All payments are made in advance, at the time of booking.

  Payment can be made by credit or debit card, by cash or BACS. There is a small charge of 1.5% for credit card bookings. With regret, we don’t accept American Express cards.

  A receipt will be issued and either emailed to you, or printed and sent to your room as you wish.

  If you would like to pay cash on arrival, we will validate your card details, but we won’t make any deductions from your card. Once payment is made you will receive your receipt.

  We use Cardsave to process our card payments, so your transaction by card with us is safe.

  If you are abroad, or would prefer not to phone with your card details, Cardsave can send you an email containing a link to their secure website, which you can use to make your payment to us. Please let us know if you would like to use this method of payment.

  For multi-week bookings, we will happily discuss payment by instalment with you.

  Finally, please look at our cancellation policy.

2. How do I pay?

• All payments must be made in advance, at the time of booking. Payment can be made in cash, by direct debit, or by credit or debit card, on a nightly or weekly basis. There is a small charged of 1.5% for credit card bookings. A debit or credit card is registered at the time of booking.

3. What time can I check in?

• Your room will be ready for you from 2pm on your arrival day. Once your room is booked and payment is made your receipt will be emailed to you. At this point we will also advise you of your room and parking number. Upon arrival, your door will be on the latch ready for you, and you can just go in and make yourself at home. All rooms are clearly sign posted.

4. What time is check-out?

• Check-out is by 10am on your day of departure. A later check-out time may be possible, but we cannot guarantee this and will be subject to a charge equivalent to one night’s stay. We ask you to check wardrobes and drawers etc to ensure you take all your personal possessions with you before setting off on your onward journey. Please leave the key in the room and leave the door on the latch – just pull it to. We cannot store any possessions left behind, so they will be disposed of.

5. Can I extend my stay?

• If you need to extend your stay please let us know as soon as possible. We will endeavour to keep you in the same room wherever possible.

  If your stay is likely going to be for a number of weeks, we ask you to book your room 2 weeks in advance at all times, keeping one week’s payment constantly in credit, so that you can give us one week notice of your intention to vacate.

  We will send a pay envelope if you need to pay your account in cash; you can put the money in the “secure internal post box” opposite the bottom of the stairs in the front hall. Please text or email the office when you have done so for us to arrange collection.

  If you wish to pay by debit card just give the office a call with your details. The Accounts Dept will then process the payment and email your receipt to you.

• Carylls has a self-service launderette with washing machine, dryer, ironing boards and irons. The washing machine uses £1.00 coins and the dryer uses 20p coins. Depending on the load, a wash costs between £6 – £7. The laundrette is situated opposite room 24 at the back of the house. The iron and ironing board are also kept in the laundry room. Please ensure you return them if you borrow them. There is a rotary washing line outside in the back garden for your use when the weather permits.

2. Is there a car park?

• Each guest has an allocated parking space and this is provided free of charge in our secure on–site car park. Please park in your allocated space only and one car per room only please. Additional cars are charged at the rate of £5.00 per day; vans £7.00 per day.

• Carylls pays the council tax, and the cost is included in your room price – you don’t need to pay any extra.

9. What is the local area like?

1. Where is Carylls?

• Carylls is located in the village of Faygate which is between the towns of Horsham and Crawley, in West Sussex. It is ideally situated for travel to either of these towns, as well as being only a few minutes’ drive to the M23. London is only one hour away by train, and the south coast can be reached in 40 minutes by car. Faygate is just 7 miles from Gatwick Airport.

2. Is there any public transport?

• Faygate has its own station, with trains to Gatwick Airport and London Victoria, as well as Brighton, London Bridge, Southampton, Portsmouth and Bognor Regis. Larger stations can also be found in Crawley and Horsham. There is a bus service on the A264 to both Crawley and Horsham. Faygate station also connects to both Horsham and Crawley. From A264 approx 1 mile down the Lane.

3. Is there a station or bus stop?

• Trains stop at Faygate during peak times (6am to 9am and 4pm to 8pm), Monday to Friday. For full details, please look at www.nationalrail.co.uk or www.southernrailway.com.

  The train station at Faygate is half a mile away from Carylls, but the walk is along a country lane.

  There are also buses that run to both Crawley and Horsham; the bus stop is approximately 1 mile away. There are three buses that stop at the bus stop in Faygate – these are Bus numbers 23, 200 and 98.

  For full details of times and destinations of these buses, please check the bus timetables at www.metrobus.co.uk. We are only 3 miles from Horsham, and 3 miles from Crawley, but as we are in the countryside, we do feel that it would be advantageous for guests to have a car.

4. What is there to do nearby?

• Carylls Country House is in the heart of beautiful, peaceful countryside. Directly opposite Carylls is Ifield Woods, where you can have a lovely walk through the fields and woodland. There is so much wildlife to see here – deer, rabbits, pheasants, and so on.

  Carylls Country House is only 3 miles away from Horsham, a historic market town in the heart of West Sussex. Horsham, with its rich history and architectural heritage, has a lovely town centre, with pavement cafés, award–winning floral displays, markets, and a perfect blend of specialist shops and famous names. Carylls Country House is a wonderful base from which to start exploring Horsham and the South East.

  Around the glorious local countryside, there is a wealth of fascinating and beautiful places to discover, from medieval churches and picturesque villages, to thriving, award–winning towns, beautiful historic houses and gardens, and a host of leisure opportunities. Dover, Newhaven and the Channel Tunnel are all within easy reach by road, enabling access to France in less than 4 hours! And at the weekend, be sure to take the horse and carriage ride that runs between the local pubs and inns in the area!

5. How do I find Carylls?

  1. From London, follow the M23 towards Brighton. From the south, follow the A23 towards Pease Pottage.
  2. At Junction 11, exit towards Horsham A264.
  3. Once on the A264 go straight over the first roundabout, continuing to follow the A264.
  4. At the next roundabout, turn left, continuing to follow the A264 towards Faygate.
  5. After approximately 3 miles, turn right at the roundabout into Faygate.
  6. Continue straight over the mini roundabout, over the railway bridge past the station, and continue for one mile. The sign for Carylls will be found on the left.
  
  By Rail

  Faygate Railway Station is located ½ a mile down the road from Carylls. Please check the National Rail website for train times and fares. Services run from London Victoria and Horsham/Arundel.

6. Are there any shops nearby?

• There are several Supermarkets nearby. The nearest is M&S at Pease Pottage; it is open 8am-10pm, 7 days per week. Apart from Horsham and Crawley, there are shopping facilities at Bewbush, Broadfield (on the way to Crawley) and Roffey (on the way to Horsham). There is a small post office and general store in Rusper, the next village to Faygate – Phone: 01293 871366.

7. Are there any pubs nearby?

• The Plough (01293 871215) and the Star (01293 871264), are both in Rusper. There is also the Lamb Inn, at Lamb’s Green, or The Gate in Ifield (01293 871271). All these pubs serve food.

• It is essential that you let us know immediately if you need to cancel your reservation. If for any reason you need to cancel your booking more than 7 days before your arrival date, a charge equivalent to one night’s accommodation will be made, and charged to your credit card. Bookings cancelled within 7 days of the arrival date will be charged in full, with no refund.

3. How do I pay?

• All payments must be made in advance, at the time of booking. Payment can be made in cash, by direct debit, or by credit or debit card, on a nightly or weekly basis. There is a small charged of 1.5% for credit card bookings. A debit or credit card is registered at the time of booking.

4. Is Carylls no-smoking?

• Carylls Country House is a no smoking hotel. To comply with the law, smoking is only allowed outside in the gardens. Wall hung ashtrays have been installed by the front and back doors for the convenience of smokers. We kindly ask you to use them as cigarette butts on the ground are both unsightly and unhygienic. With regret, if guests are found smoking in the house, they will be asked to leave and no refunds will be made. This also applies to smoking in guest rooms; in addition, a £100.00 charge for cleaning and loss of revenue will be made.

5. Do you give a guarantee?

• If upon arrival, you are not completely satisfied with your room, we will be happy to move you to another room of the same category if there is one available, or we will refund your payment in full for you to find an alternative hotel. This applies only on arrival, providing no use has been made of the room.

6. Can I have overnight visitors?

• Extra overnight guests are charged at £20.00 per person per night, and must be booked in advance, due to fire regulations.

  We reserve the right to charge for any damages or breakages howsoever caused and/or apply an excess cleaning charge where appropriate. This also applies to items removed from Carylls without consent or payment.

8. Can I change the furniture?

• A note of the décor and furniture is taken. Should your room, furniture and chattels not be left in good order, your Damage Deposit will be forfeited. Please do not move any furniture out of the room.

  Your accommodation is let to you in a clean and usable condition. Please do not re-decorate, re-build, or alter the Apartment and furniture in any way. Moving our furniture about the Apartment can result in damage and you will be charged.

9. What about my personal belongings?

• The Proprietors do not take responsibility for loss or damage of personal possession at Carylls; this includes in the grounds and car-park. Personal Possessions left behind after the Apartment is vacated or cleared by us due to non payment or any other reasons are not stored. All Possessions are destroyed.

10. Will I have security of tenure?

• Carylls is a self-catering hotel and guests do not have security of tenure whatsoever.
